Since becoming executive director, Ms. Kaunas has developed a variety of new programs and initiatives, including establishing a low cost clinic program that provides spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and microchipping services; implementing a rehabilitation program for shelter dogs with behavioral challenges; and creating a free community pet food bank. Prior to becoming executive director, Ms. Kaunas was an attorney and most recently practiced at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP in Ballard’s Business and Finance Department. In addition, Ms. Kaunas previously served as the Humane Society’s Solicitor. Ms. Kaunas received her Bachelor of Science from Penn State University and her Juris Doctorate from The Penn State Dickinson School of Law, where she was a member of the Kauffman Securities Moot Court Team and the Trial Moot Court Team. Ms. Kaunas was also the founding member of the Penn State Dickinson Chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund, a national organization composed of more than 700 attorneys who act as legal advocates improving the lives and interests of animals across the country. Ms. Kaunas resides in Wellsville with her family, which includes five dogs and two cats.
