ROTARY CLUB OF HARRISBURG TO CELEBRATE CENTENNIAL WITH MUSIC, FUN, FOOD, AND FELLOWSHIP

WHAT:

Members and friends of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg will enjoy an evening of fun, food, music, and fellowship to celebrate a very special centennial anniversary. At this event, the club will take a historical look at its 100 years of service to the Harrisburg community and its advancement since that time.

WHO, WHEN & WHERE:

Keynote speaker – Kenneth W. Grabeau, Rotary International Director (2010-2012) and humanitarian.

Event begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13th in the Kunkel Gallery of the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts.

Media are asked to contact Linda Freedenberg, Rotary Club’s Executive Director at 717-234-1208 to confirm attendance.

WHY/BACKGROUND:

The Rotary Club of Harrisburg was organized on May 3, 1911; its charter was granted on July 13th of that same year.  The club was the 23rd to be formed in all the world.

On Monday, May 16, 2011, members of the club kicked off its centennial celebration with a tree and plaque dedication ceremony to further beautify the city of Harrisburg.  The project to plant 100 trees at both Riverfront and Reservoir Parks was chosen by the club in celebration of its milestone anniversary and community service in the city.  Funding for the project came primarily through donations from Rotary Club of Harrisburg membership, partnering organizations and businesses, and neighboring clubs.  The special event at the Whitaker Center on July 13th will conclude the club’s centennial project and festivities.
