Robin Scaer receives Rotary Club of Harrisburg’s Robert D. Hanson Rotary Excellence Award
Robin Scaer was awarded the Rotary Club of Harrisburg’s Robert D. Hanson Rotary Excellence Award on Monday, January 23, 2012 at the club’s weekly meeting at the Hilton Harrisburg. Scaer was selected for the Hanson award for her exemplary service and dedicated leadership to the Rotary club and the greater Harrisburg community. This annually bestowed award celebrates the life, legacy, and service of the late Robert Hanson – a long-time club member and model Rotarian.
Scaer is Marketing Director for the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau. During her career, she has served in leadership roles for both the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra and the Museum of Scientific Discovery. Currently, she is a board member for the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg – leading the PR/Marketing Committee, and will join the board of Theatre Harrisburg in February 2012.
Scaer has been a member of Rotary since 2007 and a member of the club’s board since 2011. She chairs the First Year Rotarian committee and is an active member of the annual Pancake Breakfast committee. During her acceptance of this year’s Hanson award, Scaer shared details of her grandfather Harold “Spike” Lotz’s leadership and participation in the Rotary Club of Evans City, Pa. from 1938 to1967. “I think one of the amazing qualities about Rotary is the breadth of scale it successfully navigates,” said Scaer. “Planting the seeds at the local level that eventually sprout and grow into something bigger than ourselves and blossoming into global goodness,” she added.
Scaer received a BS in Communications from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 1989 with a minor in Theater Arts. She is the mother of three teenagers and a stepdaughter and her husband, Robert, is President of Gannett Fleming, Inc. The Scaer family resides in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
