Rotarians Enjoy Performances by State Street Academy Students

A Mid-Summer Delight

state-streetStudents from the State Street Academy delighted the Rotary Club of Harrisburg with musical performances on August 3, 2010 at the club’s weekly luncheon meeting. Speaking on behalf of the SSA was Dr. Richard Roberson, a member of the organization’s board of directors. Roberson, dean of arts at Messiah College, has a passion for teaching and sharing music and he strongly believes that SSA’s mission of music education will help expand children’s knowledge in a variety of subjects, improve test scores and bring joy.

The State Street Academy of Music at St. Lawrence Chapel in Harrisburg is a community-based, secular, grassroots organization that works with children and youth, including those at risk and disadvantaged due to such factors as poverty, poor health, illiteracy or insufficient educational and cultural opportunities. The program will develop an intensive music education program which will introduce children and teens to the wonders and joys of music, help them develop their talent, and open doors for them to new opportunities in education and life. The Academy will provide instruction in a full range of musical activities, including instrument lessons, performing ensembles, music theory, and music history.
