LAST ROTARY MEETING:  12/19/11
Minutes by Steve Baloga:
President Bob brought the meeting to order at the Hilton with singing of the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation.

Please see below information (from United States Code 36 USC Sec. 301) on the proper conduct during the playing of the National Anthem. I note that we as a club, and most everybody else, do not follow proper decorum during the playing/singing of the National Anthem. The decorum is exactly the same as when we say the Pledge of Allegiance. Stand facing the flag with your right hand over your heart during the playing/singing of the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. At sporting events it is not proper to cheer after the plying of the National Anthem. These rules do not apply to other patriotic songs (America the Beautiful, My Country, ‘Tis of Thee, etc.)

Sam Levine introduced visiting Rotarians and guests.

Pat Amice presented the students/teachers of the quarter awards to individuals from Harrisburg High School’s John Harris campus and SciTech campus.

Ira Packman reminded our members about our Homeless Initiative and the need for volunteers to sign up for our upcoming commitment to staff the Safe Harbor Shelter for 16 nights. More volunteers are needed to provide coverage for the overnight hours. Everybody got an e-mail with sign-up details.

Jeff Boswell thanked all who helped with the Salvation Army bell ringing.

Dave Bedard announced that Bob Saline graciously volunteered to cover the open two week period extending over the holidays for our Exchange Student.

Bob Hostetter tried to introduce our “speaker” for the afternoon, without success. A clever and amusing performance was provided by Stuart Landon to our members. Stuart pretended to have a job as one of Macy’s elves, and he told of the trials and tribulations faced during the interview and training process. He described, in humorous fashion, what it was like working with various Santa characters employed by Macy’s. Stuart is an accomplished actor and serves as the Marketing & Sales Operations Manager at Open Stage of Harrisburg.
