PROGRAM: Today's Program is the annual CHANGING OF THE GUARD, a celebration of committee projects and programs which have occurred during the 2009-10 Rotary year to benefit the local and world communities. Come hear all about it...and say THANK YOU to President Carolyn for her leadership during the year. Then we'll induct the new officers and hear about the plans for the 2010-11 Rotary year from President John Judson. President – John Judson Sandy Beck NEWS AND NOTES: • Music Committee: Please contact Linda if you would like to be a part of the Music Committee and lead our club in song following the invocation. • SPECIAL THANKS to Andy and Gail Rebuck for hosting the BBQ in honor of our youth exchange student Lukas. •Youth Exchange Committee: The Harrisburg Rotary Club’s Exchange Student for next school year is Javier Molina Minaya from a suburb of Madrid, Spain. He is 16 and is into sports, especially skiing and snowboarding. He speaks English well and has been a Short Term Rotary Exchange student twice (Italy one summer and Austin, Texas last summer). The Youth Exchange Committee thanks Jack and Elizabeth Huskin for agreeing to be the first Host Famiy for Javier. Javier will stay with each host family for approximately 3 months and is to be treated as a member of the family. Host families do not need to be Rotarians. If you or someone you know in the Camp Hill School District would like to be a host family, please contact Ron Guss, Caryn Carr, Steve Feinour or Linda Freedenberg as soon as possible. • DISTRICT NEWS:

Minutes by Andy Rebuck: First of all it was certainly a summer-sizzler of a day when Summer Solstice hit Harrisburg and our club members met on Monday June 21 at the Hilton. With temperatures passing ninety it was no surprise at least in this corner to see Mitch, Jack, Bob, et al, sans neckties and sporting a Connie Cool look. Speaking of heating up, the meeting jumped into gear with Rotarians Boswell, “C” Carr and Amice leading invocation, song and introductions. They made this look as easy as their last initials “B, C and A!” Jeff “He Can Print Anything” Haas then used three minutes to give us an update on his family business and family activities that revolve around his children and sports. Catch up to Jeff and talk baseball next time you can. Cool as ever, Caryn Carr outlined the desire to buy exchange student Lukas a varsity jacket and urged our membership to donate a few dollars and sign the best wishes card as well. Lukas has been a great ambassador for our club this year and Steve “Find a Host Family for Next Year” Feinour reminded us that we will host a student next school year. There was a reminder about our Nine and Dine events and you might want to add the dates of July 27th and October 26th to your calendars right now and look for the August and September dates to follow soon. Carrie “Reporter” Thomas filled us with all the Rotarians in the news-we sure are a busy bunch of folks. We could have been really smart and headed north to Montreal with Dr. Judson and Tom Johnston as they are attending the International Convention. Now that is cool! At exactly 12:43 the often imitated but never replicated, Bob Hostetter began his vibrant introduction of today’s speaker with his usual aplomb. Then with true depth of understanding, powerful insight and a fascinating overview, our speaker Michael Kennedy, dove into the topic of terrorism today. Certainly this hot topic was brought into a very bright light by Michael as he outlined five developments since 9/11 that have happened. Our speaker admitted that he was not trying to be gloomy on a bright sunny day, but rather simply realistic so that we all might react properly to terrorist actions and show resolve to be resilient. If you missed this meeting you missed a great one…. __Beach blanket, ___,sand toys, ___, beach…. |
