Since its inception in 2008 Joseph Robinson Jr. has led the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Development Institute as its Executive Director. Aside from training and graduating an inaugural class of 24 students Mr. Robinson has provided leadership to the Institute’s Blueprint for Prosperity Process, which is a comprehensive community-based strategic planning model whose impact is measured over 15 years. One Blueprint area, Quality of Life, is especially important to Robinson because it encompasses health care disparities, something he is quite familiar with by dent of his dual role as Executive Director of the South Central Pa Sickle Cell Council since 2009. The Council is the sole PA. Department of Health funded provider of support and advocacy for families affected by Sickle Cell Disease within 14 counties contiguous to Dauphin County spanning a 100 mile radius. Previously Mr. Robinson was employed by the Pa. Department of Transportation where he last served as Chief of the Performance Improvement & Metrics Division.

He retired in 2006 to pursue his desire to impart lessons-learned to others through the formation of Wildman Solutions Consultancy. His personal mission is to “Develop Effective Leaders with a Zeal for Service!” He has shared his leadership model with over 3,000 individuals throughout the Mid-Atlantic States. In 2008 he authored 7 Leadership Imperatives from a Wild Man published by Judson Press, the publishing of the American Baptist Churches, USA. He is a graduate of Harrisburg High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va.

An ordained Baptist deacon since 1986, Mr. Robinson, has served The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church in numerous capacities including Chairperson of the Pastoral Search Committee, Director of Ministries, director of several choirs, Van Ministry Coordinator and Sunday, Bible Study and New Members Instructor. Since 2009 he has served as president of the Zeta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. LAST ROTARY MEETING:  10/24/11
Minutes by Jacqueline Jackson-deGarcia:
Norma welcomed all with her wonderful musicality.  President Saline rank the meeting to order with Al Schmidt presenting the invocation and Karen Paris leading us with America the Beautiful (thank you Karen for keeping it to the first verse only!)

After time to greet each other, President Saline called the meeting to begin the program earlier due to the crowded agenda.  We welcomed a number of guests – most of who were here as a result of our LIVE AUCTION.

We welcomed three new members:  James Good, Joseph Arthur and Glenn Hafer. These three were officially “pinned” as Rotarians today.  Congratulations gentlemen.

Our keynote speaker today was the Dragon Lady of Leadership Assembly, Liz Weber.  Liz has developed excellent tools for assisting management to become leaders.  Her training focuses on the five stages of leadership designed to move the “doer” through the management phase to the leader phase.

The key, according to Liz is to for a company to design a system that provides instruction to the doers focusing on continuity and efficiency with the eye to moving the employee from the doer stage to the effective management state.  If the doers are taught well, the manager can focus more on managing and less on the “doing.”  Once the individual becomes and effective manager, the goal is then to transition to a leader – one who inspires and delegates, eventually mentoring to establish a knowledge transfer that will increase the company’s competitive advantage focusing on the future as well as the here and now.  The leader must focus on the strategic plan allowing the employees to focus on the here and now.  Finally, and effective leader will establish a transition plan for when he or she moves on.

Next we began the LIVE AUCTION – the proceeds go the pancake breakfast funds which benefit the homeless in the Harrisburg School District.  Once again, Irene graciously donated her time and talents as an auctioneer to assist us.  Andy Rebuck led as the Master of Ceremonies.  What wonderful items we had donated – golf, gourmet cuisine, vacation home on the beach, a flight, and a hotel, breakfast and theater package.  There were so many wonderful items; we could only bid on one half of them.  A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DONATED THE ITEMS and to the bidders who purchased them.

Stay tuned for further announcement as to the date when the rest of the items will be auctioned.
