PROGRAM:
Nicole Ernst is a GeoSpatial Technology Instructor/Coordinator at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Nicole is responsible for teaching Introduction to GIS, Cartographic Design, Remote Sensing, and Advanced GIS. In addition to her teaching duties, Nicole is the coordinator for HACC’s GIS Resource Center. The GIS Resource Center at HACC provides GIS services and training to industry, business, and government.

Previously, Nicole worked for the National Park Service at Bighorn Canyon, Wyoming and for the Outer Banks Group of Parks in North Carolina. As a GIS Coordinator for the NPS, she supported a number of Park divisions (Resource Management, Law Enforcement, Management, Interpretation, and Maintenance) conducting projects ranging from shoreline mapping, historic structure and landscape mapping, noxious weed infestation mapping, fire mapping etc.

More recently, Nicole worked as a GIS Analyst for the Berks County Agricultural Land Preservation Board. In this role, she used GIS to annually rank applicants to the Agricultural Conservation Easement program.

Nicole has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Slippery Rock University, a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Montana State University, and a Masters of Arts Degree in Geography from East Carolina State University. Her thesis research used LIDAR, a remote sensing technology, to quantify a sediment budget for Hatteras Island North Carolina.

• YOUTH EXCHANGE INFO
1. The Youth Exchange Committee has also received information on our prospective inbound student, Ange Sauvage. Ange is a 16-year old student from Lyon France. We will continue to update you as information is made available. If anyone is interested in serving as a host family for our 2007-08 exchange student, please contact the committee co-chairs Terry Barnaby or Ron Guss.

2. Our 2006-07 exchange student, Jose Ricardo Zambrano, from Venezuela has joined his third host family, Carolyn and Dick Dumaresq, and is attending school at Central Dauphin High School. We would like to remind you that we are always looking for activities and American cultural experiences that our exchange students will enjoy. If you have any suggestions, opportunities or tickets available, please contact Ron Guss, Jose Ricardo's counselor, or Terry Barnaby, Co-Chair of the Youth Exchange committee.

Donate $10 cash or check payable to the Harrisburg Rotary Foundation, in support of our 2006-07 goal to raise another $2,000 to assist the non-profit “Wounded Warrior Project” minister to the personal needs of our severely wounded troops who face long-term rehab in military hospitals.

President-elect Carrie Wissler Thomas filled in for President Garry. Tom Arnoldi led the club in “America” and Joe Summers gave the invocation. Larry Bashore introduced visiting Rotarians and guests, Anne Alsedek introduced the Students and Teachers of the Month and Linda reported on Al Baker’s donation to the Harrisburg Rotary Foundation - his thank you for Rotarians gifts to MDA. Norma Swain introduced Dr. Anker Buch, Danish Violinist and Comedian. The Club was treated to a wonderful performance .
