PROGRAM:
Please join us for this unique meeting of comedy and music. Denmark's acclaimed violinist, Anker Buch has appeared in more than 7000 concerts, with symphony orchestras and in solo concerts. A comedian in the style of Victor Borge, with whom he has performed, he has also appeared on numerous American talk shows, including the Johnny Carson, Merv Griffith, and Today shows. Founder and director of the famous Denmark School for Strings, he is a graduate of The Juilliard School. Noted for his virtuosic playing and his humor, Mr. Buch often starts his concerts with "Good ladies, evening and gentlemen" and after a few bars of music, turn the composition into a riot of showpieces displaying a dazzling technique. His masterful blending of classical music and side-splitting comedy has thrilled audiences on every continent. He will make his first solo Harrisburg appearance at the Forum on Sunday, April 29, at 3 PM. with his nephew, Odin Rathnam, and the Wednesday Club Youth Chamber Orchestra.

NEWS AND NOTES:

CONDOLENCES: The Rotary Club extends condolences to Tina Nixon and her family on the passing of her mother and Tim Imholte and his family on the passing of his father.

• The Board of Directors accepts with regret the following resignations:
Patti Boccassini, Tom DeAngelis and Bridget Montgomery.

• Please return your updated Roster Information sheet, an updated photo (if you wish) and your 2007-08 committee selections.

• Breakfast with REACH Program
In appreciation of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg’s generous 2006-07 donation to the Harrisburg School District Early Childhood Program, please join Dr. Gerald Kohn, Superintendent, and members of the board of the Harrisburg Public School Foundation for breakfast at Camp Curtin School on Tuesday, May 15, at 8 a.m.

We hope you can join us. In just one hour, you will be inspired by what you observe. Please RSVP to Lisa Paige, Executive Director of the Harrisburg Public School Foundation, at 717-703-4113 by May 5th.

• DISTRICT CONFERENCE Hershey Motor Lodge May 11-12
The District 7390 Conference will be held at the Hershey Motor Lodge on May 10 - 12. The Golf Outing will be held at Wren Dale Golf Course on Thursday, May 10. Plenary Sessions are Friday and Saturday, with evening dinners with RI Guest speakers and/or entertainment.

The theme of the Silent Auction is “Gifts from the Vine”. It will focus on upscale bottles of wine, but will include specialty baskets of wine glasses, cork screws, cheeses, crackers and other items associated with wine. In addition to the aforementioned items we are hoping for numerous “other” donations ($50 value and up) such as gift certificates, gift cards, and actual items such as new TVs, new stereos, or something along these lines. We feel this variety will appeal to a much broader range of attendees.

In addition to encouraging you to support Janice with your presence at the conference, we are asking you to donate any wine related, or non-wine related item (or gift basket) with a value of $50 or more. With your help, we can make this a very successful auction that enhances the delivery of services provided by the 40 clubs that make up District 7390, Rotary International.

You may contact Gib Parthemore at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to arrange delivery or request a pick-up of your item. We would like to have your donation in hand prior to April 14, 2007. Thank you in advance for your donations and core belief in “Service Above Self”.

Brochure and registration forms are on the information table and can be downloaded at
http://www.hbgrotary.org

Minutes by Mitch Tillett
Meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by Garry Britton. It was a full house today and quite a lively group at that. I give praise to the Hilton for a fantastic lunch. After the usual pledge of allegiance and prayer, the meeting officially kicked off with a mini-classification by John Hickey. John is the Executive Manager of Sutliff Chevrolet. John filled us in on the breadth and scope of the Sutliff Chevrolet Organization in Harrisburg. Quite an impressive organization at that!

A couple of committee reports were completed. Jewel Cooper reported on Harrisburg Rotary Club Foundation. Jewel
stressed that the deadline for contributions is June 30th. If you have not already done so, please make your check payable to Harrisburg Rotary Club Foundation. Please see that Linda gets it ASAP. Norma Swain reported that the Wednesday Club is proud to announce that Anchor Buch from Denmark will be doing a recital next Monday at the noon meeting. Anchor is the nephew of Odin Rathnam. Kent Frese reported that the Strategic Planning Committee's on-line registration is going very well. If you have not done so, please visit the on-line web site. Also, all members of the Strategic Planning Committee will be asked to complete a personalized behavior report survey (sounds controversial to me). Last but not least, there will be a general membership survey conducted. It should be brief, perhaps as many as 10 questions.

Three new members were introduced today. They are Mike Carbone, Andy Hetrick and are you ready for this? (drum roll please -( HAROLD AMMONS). He's now a member of the Harrisburg Rotary Club!! On a side note, in an attempt to start controversy, Jacqueline Bedard also was the last member to show up today. Thanks Jacqueline for gracing us with your presence at 12:40 p.m.

Mayor Reed was introduced by Peggy Grove. Four things about the mayor's presentation;
1. He claims that the wind velocity was actually greater than his longest speech.
2. The Mayor amazed us with fact after fact pertaining to the continual rise in education and economic development in
downtown Harrisburg.
3. The biggest project currently slated is the Southgate Corridor Project.
4. Mayor Steve says this will double the size of downtown Harrisburg.

Basically, to summarize the Mayor's presentation, there was too much good stuff to write about. We are lucky to have such a good Mayor in Harrisburg. See you next week.

President E. Garrett Brinton

President-Elect Carrie Wissler Thomas

Immediate Past-President Jewel Cooper

Secretary Carolyn Dumaresq

Treasurer William B. Boles

Sergeant-at-Arms Shelly S. Myers
