ATTENDANCE LAST ROTARY MEETING: 12/11/06 45%
Rotarians 60 Active Specials 13 Guests 30 Visiting Rotarians 1 = 104
Minutes by Steve Baloga
President Garry Brinton brought the meeting to order at the Radisson as customary with singing, the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation.
Patti Boccassini introduced visiting Rotarians and guests.
Program:
Sharon Stabinski presented the “Service Above Self” awards. First she introduced those receiving Honorable Mention (see Rotary Roundup). Then she introduced Maryann Chiavetta of The ARC of Dauphin and Lebanon Counties as the 2nd place recipient and Barry Landis of Goodwill Industries - Keystone Area as the 1st place recipient. Maryann and Barry gave acceptance speeches thanking the Rotary Club and explaining how they got involved in their respective organizations. Their dedication to these organizations, which help so many people, is a tremendous example for all Rotary members.
Announcements and Committee Reports:
President Gary announced that Greg Sutliff had received a 2006 Hall of Fame, Business of the Year Award from the Business Journal. Congratulations Greg!
Jewel Cooper reminded members to get their $100 Harrisburg Rotary Foundation contribution in by the end of the year to get a charitable contribution tax deduction. Jewel also indicated that our club is having a membership drive and encouraged members to actively seek new members.
Hal Hurwitz indicated the Salvation Army “virtual” bell ringing (and real-time money collecting) will commence tomorrow, Tuesday 12/12/06 at Strawberry Square. He covered use of the “ding-dong sign” (it’s a reusable sign we’ll use again next year – in case you don’t know, Strawberry Square does not allow bell ringing so as not to disturb patrons, so we use a “ding-dong sign”), parking (same as for Rotary meetings in Walnut Street Garage with usual discount), and member contributions (indicate you’re a Harrisburg Rotary Club member on your check and we get credit for the contribution).
Next Meeting:
At the Hilton - will feature the Cedar Cliff Octet – be there!
