President Barry opened what will be his last official meeting as President of Harrisburg Rotary Club, # 23 at 12:15 PM.  Wil Everhart provided the invocation for today’s meeting and Tom Arnoldi let everyone in Club Singing of “American the Beautiful,” accompanied by Norma Swain on the piano.

Greeter Wil Everhart introduced visiting Rotarians and guests.

John Judson was called to the podium to provide a “Rotary Minute” re the Rotary Foundation.  John reported that 62% of our club made their contribution to the Foundation in the Rotary year – over $12,000.

Our Rotary Exchange student, Paul, was recognized.  He had an excellent year attending school and making “many” new friends in the United States during his year.

Good News Reporting was provided by Jeff Boswell.  Although many had good news to announce ($143 collected), Jewel Cooper was “mentioned” by a number of folks leading one wag to say “It was all about Jewel!”

President Barry began comments acknowledging Carolyn Dumaresq as the incoming President of the Harrisburg Rotary Club for the coming year.  He also recognized our Club Executive Director, Linda Freedenberg, for her untiring service to the Club during his presidency and gave her an arrangement of roses!  Barry also thanked the entire Board for their outstanding support in the past year.

President Barry then introduced fellow Rotarian, Bob Hostetter, who he noted was his “mentor” during the recent year.  Bob made cogent comments pursuant to President Barry’s outstanding year of accomplishments.  Bob then took off in Pursuit of a “roast” of President Barry and his term as well as Barry’s relationship with the members in general.  President Barry received a standing ovation for his year of outstanding service and accomplishment leading our Club!

A “change of power” (in the military they term it a change of command!), took place.  Janice Black, Past President of our Club and Past District Governor for District 7390, introduced Carolyn Dumaresq and installed her into the presidency of our Club.  Carolyn then provided comments.  She noted her “mixed emotions” in taking over leadership of our Club.  Carolyn promised to work for excellence during her year and assured her “full commitment.”

Those of you who missed this meeting missed out on an orderly “transition of power” for the Club, which took place without bloodshed or rancor!  Transition to a new leadership team was seamless as we move into a new Rotary year.  As of 6/30/09, your Club had 200 members (versus 197 a year ago, including our new corporate member – Capital Blue Cross individuals.  Hearing about some of the accomplishments during the past year was worthy and a clear indication of the tremendous leadership provided by President Barry and his team.  We wish Carolyn the best, ask the Club to provide her an equal level of support as was given President Barry, and encourage all to do their best to “step up and do more ”in the coming year!

Transition of Power has successfully concluded!  Congratulations to ALL!
