PROGRAM:
"I
was born at Lecheria, Anzoategui (state) in Venezuela on a Saturday, March 4,
1989. My parent's names are Jose Zambrano and Zaida Hadwan. My father is a
Chemical Engineer. He has his own company that sells equipment to the
petroleum industry. My mother is a General Doctor; she also took chef classes
and was first in her class. I was my parent's first child. Two years after I
was born, my brother Jose Daniel (15 years old now) was born, November 21,
1991.
My
parents tell me that the first year of my life I was a very hyperactive child
and I also learn everything really quick. They tell me I start talking
when I was 8 months... well that's what they say.
I started
school when I was 3 1/2 years old; I was really messy in school. I was always
getting into troubles because I was always running around. I went to the
Italian-Venezuelan school "Angelo de Marta", which gave me a really good
knowledge of the Italian language. But, please don't try to talk to me in
Italian. I always liked subjects like math and physics; I represented my school
on math Olympics. Making friends it's one of my best abilities and I have many
friends. During my last year of high school I was accepted to the three
best colleges in Venezuela,
which gives me the opportunity to decide where I wanted to go to
college. I want to study Electronical Engineering.
I've been
practicing sports since I was about 6 years old. Swimming was my first sport.
After that I started to practice Tae Kwan do (getting to green belt). Then I
started to play indoor soccer. I'm a big soccer fan; I have been watching
European and South American soccer ever since I can remember.
My
hobbies are hanging out with my friends, play some soccer, going to parties,
movies and go shopping (even if it sounds girly).
I have to
add that my family and friends are everything to me. If I am any good at
something it's because my dad did an awesome job raising me and building my
character, and my mom gave me my craziness and my kindness, also my late
grandmother played a big role in raising me and was the one that first told me
I was meant to be a great person and a good man. I hope that she thinks I'm in
the right track, and if I'm not, I'm sure when we meet again she will pull my
ears for that."

Can you
hear it? Can you hear it? Is it the sound of robins as the first day of
Spring is rapidly approaching? Is it the sound of the harp as that
special St. Patrick's Day holiday is right around the corner? Perhaps it
is the sound of the bouncing ball as the NCAA March Madness event kicks off
Thursday. No, none of these sounds are
what we are hearing. At the Monday meeting of the Rotary Club Of
Harrisburg today we heard loud and clear the sound of youth!
Yes, we
enjoyed a wonderful presentation led by Rotarian Snider that highlighted the
YCDT project. Surely we all knew that YCDT (Youth Community Development
Team) is our centennial project. We also fully realized that this project
teaches and enables our area youth to understand philanthropy, develop
leadership skills and foster attention to serving the needs of the
community. Finally, most of us knew full and well that this effort has
been shepherded by some awesome Rotarians-Marie Lick, Dolores Liptak, Karen
Snider, Sharon Stabinski and others like Shelly Myers, Joe Summers, Bob Saline
and Dave Bartoli.
We may
not have known that 35 students from Bishop McDevitt, Harrisburg High and
Sci-tech High are active with one time per month, 2 hour meetings at the
Patriot News building. Most likely we were in the dark that there is a
$12,000 operating budget and that Rep. Buxton just secured $5,000 and Sen.
Piccola locked in $20,000. At the
same time, the YCDT continues to seek our charitable gifts for the endowment
fund.
Our club
heard from two students today. Both, with great poise and enthusiasm
outlined some of the dynamics of this project and left us with a very warm and
very clear idea of just how awesome this rotary project is and will be in the Harrisburg area for years
to follow. If you missed this meeting, please, please, take time to e-mail
Karen Snider and ask her how you can become a part of supporting YCDT.
From
youth to technology, our club moved to a demonstration of our new web site at
exactly 12:40 this afternoon. Our very own, super-techie, Kent Frese, led
a live web site introduction of www.hbgrotary.org. If you want to know
anything about our club, our district or even our international efforts, go to
www.hbgrotary.org. Special thanks to prospective member, John Kurtinecz from J.P. Lilley and Son, for providing the equipment for the presentation at no charge to the club. Gold stars to Kent!
We
finished the meeting with five more items. First, president-elect Carrie,
hosted the welcome to the club of three new members-Edward Tosti, Jeffrey
Gelburd and Una Martone! Second, President Garry pinned our very own Al
Morrison with a cool, musical cleft Rotary pin! (Al took a minute to note
that he plays for many organizations. He went on to say that he has played
since age 8 for the Wednesday club and would certainly very much
appreciate our support of this awesome musical organization.) Third, wonder-woman, Sandy Beck, outlined
initiatives to recruit new members that included PSA announcements on public
radio, a recruitment message on area billboards and a direct mail campaign to
community leaders. Fourth, Big, Bob Hostetter spoke with his usual flair
on the upcoming Dominican dental care mission-best wishes to Bob and the
team! Fifth and final before the bell rang at exactly 1:11, Ron Guss
urged volunteers to sign up for assistance at the District Rotary Student Youth
Exchange weekend March 17-18th. We need you, was the main message, so
before you move to the next project on your to do list, go to www.hbgrotary.org
and e-mail Ron Guss <

>, your willingness to
help out.
Keep your
ears open, there are a lot of great sounds out there, including the sound of
youth reverberating from YCDT!
