PROGRAM: Sergeant Kristal Turner-Childs has 19 years of law enforcement experience in primary fields of corrections and as a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper. Kristal is currently the only black female who holds the rank of Sergent in the Pennsylvania State Police. She serves as a supervisor to the Recruitment and Special Services Office. The Recruitment Section Supervisor coordinates media coverage for recruitment initiatives, Public Service Announcement’s, and the dissemination of the Department’s recruitment policy throughout the State of Pennsylvania. Kristal is the CEO of “EYES WIDE OPEN, LLC” a motivational speaking and community service Company. A native of Harrisburg, she is a graduate of Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
Kristal has received the 2005 Wesley Union Community Development Corporation, Paul Robeson award for service to the community person. The 2005 Heritage Award for excellence in Business, Government, and was selected by the Harrisburg Patriot News as a 2005 African-American “Mover & Shaker”. Kristal has served as a presenter at High Mark’s Fun, Fit and Fabulous conference for women in 2006 and 2007. She received 2007 American Business Women’s Association Award for Community Woman of the Year and was selected by the Greater Harrisburg YWCA as a Woman of Excellence in 2008.
Kristal is a member of the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg. She serves on the Greater Zion Mass Choir and is the Chairperson of the “Walking in the Spirit Ministry”. Kristal is also a member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. Kristal resides in Harrisburg with her husband Jeffrey.

• HAPPY HOURS ARE BACK!
Do you like to have fun; meet new and interesting people; and do you need a Rotary make up? If you answered yes, yes and yes, then you are definitely going to want to join us at the upcoming Rotary Club of Harrisburg Happy Hour events. These are fun, social mixers from 5 to 7 PM where fellow Rotarians and their guests meet at one of our area restaurants and nightclubs and receive an attendance make-up!
Plan to enjoy a cold drink and some world-famous pizza on May 22 at Bricco (3rd Street, just north of Chestnut).

The meeting was called to order by President Carrie.
We had visitors from Brazil Club 4437 represented by Dr. Claudio Mafra De Siqueira and four of his associates. There was an exchange of Rotary Flags from their club to ours.
Dr. John Judson and Bob Hall received a matching fund grant of nearly $17,000 for the dental lab in the Dominican Rebublic that our club provides support. Congratulations John & Bob!
Three members were welcomed in the club. They are Kirt Bardin, Jessica Malone, and Thomas Weber. Welcome Kirt, Jessica, & Thomas!
Next the Best and Brightest Scholarship Awards were announced by Hasu Shah. It was very encouraging to see such a talented group of young people, with their lives in front of them, share their dreams and goals.
Once again, another great meeting for Club # 23.
