PROGRAM: Sandy Beck has been a Dale Carnegie Careerist for the past 20 years.  For 17 of those 20 years she has been in the top 5% in production Worldwide.  Dale Carnegie Training is the world’s largest adult training organization and they are currently located in over 70 foreign countries where their  programs have been  translated in over 40 foreign different languages.  Currently Sandy is the Area Manager of the Central Pa Region.  Her responsibilities include Sales, Marketing, Instruction and Administration for the local Dale Carnegie Franchise that oversees central Pa to Northern Virginia.

Sandy's experience with Dale Carnegie Training has afforded her the opportunity to speak to many types of organizations, such as associations, professional meetings and various clubs and conventions.  Besides her full time responsibilities with DCT, Sandy is the mother of two young adults.  Her son is in college and her daughter is a senior at Palmyra high school. She and her husband Rick have been married for 25 years.

Sandy has been a member of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg for the past five years and is currently serving on the board and over the past few years has been chairperson for the Membership Committee Sandy finds it important to give back into the community and has volunteered at United Way, Allied Arts, American Heart Association and local chambers.  She is also very involved in her daughter’s school and often hosts exchange students from Switzerland, and China.

One thing you may or may not know about Sandy, she is a outdoor enthusiast.  She loves biking and hiking. She is a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and fulfilled a life long dream of meeting Bruce at the Pa Horse Show at the Farm Show Building after using every Dale Carnegie Principle she had known and found him, hugged him and had three glorious minutes with her all time idol.

Despite wearing many hats her in professional life, she supported her family as her husband was attending college full-time getting his teaching degree.  Sandy prides herself on balancing her professional and personal  life for the past 20  years.. This balance has truly earned her the right to discuss balance, setting goals and being successful in "The Wheel of Life."

Minutes by Steve Baloga:
President John brought the meeting to order at the Hilton with singing, the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation.

Michael Hanes introduced visiting Rotarians and guests.

Ryan Riley gave a mini-classification talk. He is Director of Development and Alumni Relations for Harrisburg University.

President John estimated we raised $15,000 - $16,000 from the pancake breakfast. He also indicated that various club members are leaving for the Dominican Republic this week to conduct a mission at the dental clinic next week.

Steve Feinour gave a report on our Youth Exchange program. Javier is celebrating his 17 birthday tomorrow with a party at his host family’s house. Maria Persico is helping tutor Javier with some of his school work.

Due to popular demand, Peggy Grove conducted a live auction for her distinctive pancake breakfast hat. One of the conditions for the winning bid was that Bob Hostetter had to wear the hat for the remainder of the meeting, which he did. Peggy introduced her new hat for next year’s pancake breakfast. Bob Hostetter is already scheming “How can I get to wear that sharp hat next year?”

Hal Hurwitz announced we will again be conducting “bell ringing” for the Salvation Army at Strawberry Square on December 14 and 15 of this year. Please sign up to cover a time slot.

Bob Hostetter introduced our speaker for today – US Army Lt. Col. James B. Stanford. Col. Stanford is a student at the Carlisle Army War College. He spoke on leadership indicating a leader needs competence and needs to be a servant leader. Nothing says follow me like knowing where you’re going and what you’re doing. The servant leader exists to make doers successful. He advised to lead like you want to be led and identify legitimate needs.
