PROGRAM:
Senator Jeffrey E. Piccola was born and raised in Susquehanna Township and graduated from the public school system, graduated from Gettysburg College and raduated from George Washington University Law School. His professional experience includes: Serving as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1977-1995) for the 104th Legislative District (Dauphin County), Won a Special Election (November 1995) for the 15th Senatorial District (re-elected in 1996, 2000, and 2004), Served as Majority Whip, the third ranking member of the Senate Republican Leadership Team (2001-2006) and Chaired State Government Committee. He has been a champion for ensuring public protection/safety and Judicial reform. Senator Piccola has fostered business and economic development and has been a leader in improving public education, spearheading urban revitalization and community outreach. Senator Piccola is a Member and past president of Susquehanna Township Lions Club, Member of the American Legion, Member of Robert Burns Lodge 464 F&AM and Trustee of the Harrisburg Consistory; Piccola is a 33rd degree Mason, Elder at Progress Immanuel Presbyterian Church, served on the Advisory Board of the Keystone Area Council, Boy Scouts of America and is a Partner in the Harrisburg law firm of Boswell, Tintner, Piccola, and Alford (and member of the Pennsylvania and Dauphin County Bar Associations). Senator Piccola lives in Susquehanna Township with his wife, Denise; they are the parents of two grown children, Jason and Jenny and the grandparents of one grandson, Luke Jeffrey Piccola

President Barry brought the meeting to order at the Hilton as customary with singing, the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation.
John Griner introduced guests and visiting Rotarians.
Robin Scaer and Andy Rebuck made a final series of announcements regarding the Pancake Breakfast – sign up to volunteer; sell your tickets; be there 8 AM to Noon this Saturday 10/11/08. Donations are still needed for the TV raffle.
Sam Levine’s wife Irene graciously agreed to conduct a live auction at the meeting of items donated for the Pancake Breakfast. Thanks to Irene and all those who purchased items.
Sally Klein introduced our speaker Tom Corbett, State Attorney General, who is running for re-election.
Attorney General Corbett explained how he viewed his role in state government as protecting the safety of Pennsylvania citizens. He strives for a fair and balanced approach to law enforcement and considers the potential adverse impact of his actions. He said we must distinguish between innovation and breaking the law. Otherwise we stifle the opportunity of businesses to grow just because they do something new or different. However, if anybody breaks the law, he pursues them to the fullest extent.
