Minutes by: Steve Baloga Betty Hungerford introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians. She also conducted good news reporting. Jeannette Archer-Simons gave a Rotary Minute – celebrate being part of Rotary. Ron Guss announced that we are still looking for host families for our exchange student. The hosts must reside in Susquehanna Township School District. They don’t have to be Rotary members. We are also looking for tickets to events and activities (Penn Stste Football Game?) that can be used by the student. Karen Paris, Jacqueline Jackson-DeGarcia, Gib Parthemore and Connie Siegel gave an update on the pancake breakfast. This year’s pancake breakfast fund raiser is scheduled for October 24, 2009 at Harrisburg High School. Sign up for volunteers will be available soon. Tickets for each member are now being distributed. If you haven’t received them yet they will be mailed. The letter included with the tickets has the wrong prices listed, please use the prices printed on the actual tickets: $6/adult. Silent auction items are needed, underwriters for the big screen TV raffle are needed, and placemat sponsors (4 spaces at $125 each) are needed. Chad Barger introduced our speaker Dr. Mehdi Noorbaksh a professor at Harrisburg University. Dr. Noorbaksh is an expert on Middle Eastern affairs and spoke about the movement for democracy in Iran and its prospects for the future. The move to democratic self-rule without foreign intervention has a long history in Iran with many setbacks along the way, including the setback relating to the current regime and recent election. |
