Toni Gilhooley is the Republican candidate for United States Congress in Pennsylvania’s 17th District. Toni has a distinguished career marked by hard work, dedication and accomplishment. Born in Steelton, Antoinette D’Agostino – known to her friends as “Toni” – was raised in a working-class family that valued hard work, perseverance and courage. These traits have been the hallmarks of Toni’s career. For 25 years, Toni served the citizens of Pennsylvania as a State Trooper. She was a pioneer for women in the Pennsylvania State Police. Toni was a cadet in only the second class of women to enter the State Police Academy and is among the first 20 women to become State Troopers. Her determination and hard work won her the distinction of being the first female staff instructor at the State Police Academy. During her career, Toni received numerous commendations and awards and was honored by the PA Coalition Against Domestic Violence for her work with victims of abuse. Toni’s care and dedication to her fellow officers led her to serve as a Volunteer Peer Contact, assisting State Police with various personal crises. Toni continues to serve as a Peer Support Officer working with municipal police departments in central PA and around the state. She has also served as a Victim Advocate. Toni also serves on Dauphin County’s Domestic Violence Task Force. Following her retirement from the State Police, Toni continued to serve her fellow citizens in a variety of capacities. In October 2002, Governor Mark Schweiker appointed Toni to serve on the PA Human Relations Commission where she served as a Commissioner and Assistant Secretary. As a nationally certified Employee Assistance Professional, Toni regularly provided counseling and assistance to both public and private sector employers. She has been involved in a wide variety of business organizations including the Central PA Association of Female Executives, PA Association of Retired State Employees, and the Business and Professional Women of Pennsylvania where she served as the State Legislation Chair. Toni has actively supported the Republican Party. She serves as President of the Dauphin County Council of Republican Women. She is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the PA State Troopers Retirees Association, and the National Rifle Association. Toni is married to William M. Minutes by Andy Rebuck:
Was the weather perfect today? Was today’s speaker awesome? Was it standing room only at our meeting? Is today different or not?
Yes, yes, yes and yes would be the correct answers, but let’s take a step back, set the stage and get some details here.
Members of The Rotary Club of Harrisburg, #23 in all the world, convened at the Hilton Hotel and Towers on what may have been the nicest weather day of the year! As the kick off approached our attendance continued to rise and staff moved effortlessly to set up additional tables. (Perhaps the four-star weather day prompted everyone to get outside and head to club today.)
At exactly 12:19 President Barry rang the bell, Jeff “Soccer Coach” Boswell then offered the invocation and Doug “Pipes” Pieper belted out a wonderful God Bless America. Then Steve “Soccer Referee” Feinour highlighted four visiting Rotarians that included our District Governor Nominee, Will Kirkpatrick and steered us through the introduction of many guests of Sandy Beck and those with Rotarians Hungerford, Hartman, Cooper, C. Carr, Cavanaugh and Wallin.
We heard a brief report that last year’s exchange student, Ange, is doing great and very appreciative that our club hosted his year as well as a plea for volunteers to host this year’s student, Paul, in the Central Dauphin School District.
Howard “Please Volunteer to Work at the Pancake Breakfast” Ammons and Sam “We Need Auction Items” Levine made sure we got the messages today about the upcoming Pancake Breakfast on Saturday October 11 at Harrisburg High School.
President Barry thanked Steve “ Whitaker Center ” Krempasky for the cool $23 ticket price commemorating club # 23 in all the world at upcoming events on October 2nd and 3rd. Members were encouraged to enjoy this generous offer.
At 12:38 with a full house at attention, Bob “He is Super” Hostetter introduced our very own club member, Sandy Beck, who then introduced today’s speaker-her boss-with the joy of a child opening a birthday present.
Peter Handal the leader of Dale Carnegie spoke with style, wit and substance on the topic of “How to lead in times of change.” He asked if today is any different; how change does affect us and how change does affect our staff, employees, customers, etc.
It was readily apparent that the full house today was in for a treat as Peter moved effortlessly to weave his international experiences, excellent short stories and quotes (“a peacock today is a feather duster tomorrow” illustrated that change is happening and old models won’t continue to work)
If by chance you missed today’s meeting make sure you stop and ask Sandy to relate the WalMart cheer story and why in a world that is driven to change by technology we all need to “get Human” realizing that people are the center.
Yes, it was a beautiful day; yes, our speaker was awesome; yes, the Hilton staff could not have added any more tables, and yes today is different as we live in a world filled with change.
